Starting something new is always an adventure. This week I learned about an herb called Moxa, also known as Mugwort. My acupunturist decided to use this herb during my treatment after a conversation about how I was feeling. My last treatment included a weight loss acupuncture point. She didn't tell me, but I asked her the next week if she had included it in my treatment because I had lost weight.
This time, I told her that it was "that time of the month" and I had experienced cramping earlier that morning. Dr. Bennett said it was because I was physically cold internally and that is what causes the cramps. That's why heating pads are so effective in relieving cramps.
She took six sticks of this Moxa herb, lit them and placed them across my abdomen. The herbs warm up and are absorbed through the skin. I am pleased to announce that I haven't had any cramps at all since the herb treatment which accompanied acupuncture as well.
She also gave me a recipe for a green smoothie that helps increase energy. This was great for me because I don't eat enough veggies.
1/2 Bunch Spinach -or- 1/2 Head of Romaine
2 Leaves of Kale
2 Leaves of Red Chard
2 Leaves of Dandelion (found at Spouts)
Chunk of Cabbage
Handful of Pineapple & Mango -or- Strawberries & 1 Banana
The fruit makes it sweeter. I made both and preferred the Strawberries & Banana combo. This isn't a smoothie that you drink. You'll want to eat it with a spoon, but it's very good and refreshing.
I make half a blender full and keep what I don't eat in the fridge. It will keep for a couple of days but the quicker you eat it, the better. I haven't broken in the juicer yet, but that's my next project!
